 People who have heard of the Serenity Prayer usually associate it with Alcoholics Anonymous or other 12 Step Programs. But it is a prayer that is a guide for healthy and holy living for every believer. During this St. Jude Novena we will reflect on this prayer so that we might better understand Our God and ourselves.


Fr. Richard M. Sudlik, OMI was born in Buffalo New York in 1945. He entered the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate seminary as a college freshman and was ordained in 1972 after studying in Washington DC. His degrees include a BA in philosophy, an M.Div in theology from Oblate College in Washington DC and a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola of Baltimore.

 Fr. Sudlik’s career as an Oblate has had many aspects. He has done parish ministry in Hollywood Florida, West Virginia and South Carolina and inner city Miami. He has been involved in Vocation Ministry and Seminary Formation Ministry for the Missionary Oblates. From 1999 until 2011 he served in a leadership position as Provincial Councilor for the United States Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was in New Orleans where he served as Director and Superior of the Oblate Mission Center. He is presently on the staff at Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo Minnesota.

 During his service as a priest, he has preached in parishes and retreat centers throughout the United States. He has preached retreats to priests and religious in the United States and abroad.
